On Thursday, February 14th, 2013, The MATCH International Women’s Fund will Strike, Dance, and Rise as part of One Billion Rising, a global effort to end violence against women. Along with fellow dancers at World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and Farm Radio International (FRI), The MATCH Fund is looking forward to busting a move this Valentine’s Day. So dust off your dancing shoes and join us in this global movement.
One Billion Rising is a global pledge that tells the world we refuse to accept violence against women. A truly international movement, 200 countries have signed up on the One Billion Rising website to date.
“One Billion Rising will move the earth, activating women and men across every country.”
We are rising because we know that grassroots feminist movements are the most effective in challenging attitudes and practices that perpetuate violence against women. New research supports this. That’s why we continue to support grassroots women’s organizations in everything that we do.
Of course we know that dancing won’t change the fact that violence against women still occurs daily. Our pledge to end such violence needs be a daily commitment. One billion rising is a symbolic pledge that demonstrates “our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders”.
