A Message from MATCH Manitoba
Women from Manitoba attended the UN Forum for Women in Mexico in 1975, and it is here that our story begins. Like Norma Walmsley and Suzanne Johnson, who co-founded MATCH International following that Forum, the Manitoba women became personally connected to the issues facing women in the global South.
Our MATCH MB committee has been strongly committed to contributing to the funding of overseas projects, and to the education, and public engagement of Manitobans. We are most grateful to the Manitoba women who have served on the Board, and especially to Jo Wright who has been working diligently through these recent critical times.
Here in Manitoba, all our work is done on a volunteer basis, holding our committee meetings at member’s homes, and holding our public events in donated venues with refreshments provided by our members. The speakers and presenters at our events also generously volunteer their time, experience and expertise. Any funds raised are sent to The MATCH International Women’s Fund for women’s rights organizations in the global South that are carefully selected by the Board. We take both fundraising and education of ourselves and our fellow Canadians seriously. And we’re a bit like prairie quack grass, you just can’t get rid of us!

The MATCH Manitoba Committee is led by Helen Whetter, a long-time supporter of The MATCH Fund and dedicated women’s rights activist. Over the years, Helen has dedicated much time and energy to the efforts of The MATCH Fund. The Board and staff are extremely grateful for her unwavering commitment.
